The Municipality of Woerden, Kalsbeek College, Minkema College and Hart voor Woerden signed a 4-year covenant on 12 December 2019 for the further continuation of the social internship in Woerden. It is now the third four-year covenant around the MaS that these parties have signed.
The signing took place at the ice rink in Woerden. This ice rink is run entirely by volunteers. Every year there are at least 30 civic interns who complete their internship at the ice rink. They supervise the ice, help with the distribution of skates and judge the curling competition.
By signing, all parties involved indicate that they attach great importance to the social internship; It enriches the curriculum and is important in the citizenship education of students. The new covenant runs from 2020 to 2023.
The aim of the parties involved is to be able to (continue to) offer students challenging and enriching social internships of 30 hours in the future. At a time when the government is increasingly relying on the efforts of citizens and social initiative, young people who are willing to volunteer for others are urgently needed.
Both the schools and Hart voor Woerden as coordinating organization have plans to strengthen the social internship in Woerden. A new digital internship bank will follow in early 2020, for example. Later in 2020 there will be workshops for organizations providing internships on how to involve young people in their volunteer work.
