Do I pay volunteers a fee?

Volunteers can claim a volunteer allowance. This is not an obligation and is only done in consultation with the person requesting help. It is important to express expectations about this when sending a message or an introductory meeting.

What help is offered, how do we treat each other and what about reimbursement of expenses, travel costs and insurance? If desired, you can draw up a contract for this and both sign it.

The fees
Typically, there are two types of volunteer allowances, the expense allowance and the volunteer allowance.

The expense allowance covers the costs that a volunteer incurs in order to be able to carry out the voluntary work. This can be, for example, travel costs, entrance fees to the zoo or the costs for a cup of coffee.

The volunteer fee is a one-off or hourly fee that the volunteer receives for the services rendered. The maximum amount of this reimbursement has been determined by the tax authorities. Current information about this can be found on the website of the Tax Authorities.

PAY ATTENTION! If the volunteer receives a social assistance benefit, a volunteer's compensation can influence the amount of this benefit.
